When people see headlines about big verdicts and large settlements, they often wonder what happens next. At Hoyt & Blewett PLLC, those results do more than help individual clients rebuild their lives. They also fuel long-term investments in Montana schools, students, and neighborhoods. Our Community Involvement video pulls back the curtain on that side of our story and shows how deeply our firm connects to the place we call home.
Why this community story matters now
We have practiced personal injury law in Montana for three generations. Over that time, we have seen how one serious injury can change a family’s future. We have also seen how strong communities can lift people up. Our video explains how we use the success of our legal work to support the same communities that trust us with their hardest moments.
As one of our attorneys says in the video, “We have a bedrock foundation in Montana because of our connection to the community that we live in, to this state that we serve.” That line captures what drives us today. We do not see community support as a side project. We see it as part of the same mission as our courtroom work: standing up for Montanans and helping them move forward.
Moments in the video that stay with you
The Community Involvement video runs only a few minutes, but several moments stand out. Here are a few to watch for as you hit play:
“We grew up here, we raised our families here”
Early in the video, we talk about our roots: “We grew up here, we raised our families here. And community is ultimately what drives everything we do.” That simple statement explains why we care so much about giving back. We are not parachuting into Montana for cases. We live here. We send our kids to school here. We walk the same trails and sit in the same bleachers.
Giving back through education and consumer protection
Another key moment in the video focuses on our work with the University of Montana School of Law. As we explain, “We gave a large amount to the law school to create scholarships for students and create a consumer protection program, and it has really helped them.”
Those efforts line up with what you may already know about our firm from the news. Our attorneys helped fund the design and construction of the Hoyt & Blewett Courtroom at the law school and supported scholarships that opened doors for future Montana lawyers. A major gift from attorney Zander Blewett led to the renaming of the school as the Alexander Blewett III School of Law at the University of Montana. These projects reflect our belief that strong legal education and consumer protection programs benefit every Montanan, not just our clients.
Statewide scholarships and support for young people
The video also highlights how we support students beyond the law school. “We have helped the Montana State University with their sports programs. We've set up scholarships all over the state. We have funded a long term scholarship situation at Great Falls High. Just a great opportunity for high school students to go to college.”
Those comments point to a broad commitment. Our firm and the Blewett family have funded scholarships for Great Falls High School students, created the Blewett Family Scholarship, and supported wrestler-students at schools across Montana, including Cascade, Simms, Fort Benton, Conrad, Choteau, Fairfield, Havre, and Cut Bank. We have also contributed to new athletic facilities at Montana State University and to the John C. Hoyt Athletic Complex for the University of Montana football program.
When you watch the video, you will hear how proud we feel about helping young people gain access to education and athletics. For many families, these scholarships and facilities change what is possible for their kids.
“Every place we think we can do some good for society”
In another scene, we say, “We give all different types of charities every place we think we can do some good for society.” That mindset has led us to support local groups like Big Brothers Big Sisters of Great Falls, the Boys and Girls Club, and the United Way of Cascade County. It also led to our contribution for the River’s Edge Trail to help purchase nearly two miles of trail easement along the Missouri River.
These efforts may look different—a trail, a scholarship, an after-school program—but they share the same goal: make life in our communities stronger, safer, and more hopeful.
What happens after a big verdict
One of the most candid and memorable quotes in the video addresses something many people think about but rarely ask. We say, “People realize that if you get a big verdict, there's going to be a big fee. But I think people appreciate the fact that you take that big fee and you give it to worthy causes. And I think everybody thinks that's pretty cool.”
Our firm has obtained many of the top personal injury verdicts and settlements in Montana, including a $27 million settlement for a brain injury sustained in an auto accident, a $21.35 million verdict for malicious prosecution, an $11 million settlement for a construction accident, a $9.79 million verdict for a railroad crossing injury, a $7 million verdict in a personal injury case, and a $6.5 million settlement in a wrongful death case. Those results reflect years of hard work for our clients. They also make it possible for us to support scholarships, facilities, and programs that reach far beyond any one case.
How the video reflects our values today
The Community Involvement video does more than list donations. It shows how we think about our role in Montana. Several themes come through clearly.
Community is not an afterthought
When we say, “We invest in our community to try to make it a better place for everyone to live,” we mean it. That belief shapes how we handle our legal work and how we use the resources that come from it. Our attorneys come to work every day because we care about the impact we can have on people’s lives, both inside and outside the courtroom.
Trust flows both ways
We also share in the video, “Ultimately, when you have the backing of a community and trust and believe in the people you're helping, they can sense that.” For us, that trust goes both directions. Our neighbors allow us to stand up for them after life-changing injuries. In return, we commit our time, energy, and resources back into the same communities that have supported our firm for generations.
Clients often tell us they feel encouraged when they learn about our charitable work. As we note in the video, we have found that “our clients are impressed by the charitable work that we have done over the years.” Many people feel relieved to know that when we succeed in a case, we look for ways to share that success with worthy causes across the state.
Connecting courtroom results with real-world change
Hoyt & Blewett PLLC has built a reputation for taking cases to trial when needed and securing substantial verdicts and settlements for injured Montanans. Our attorneys have earned national recognition, including membership in the Inner Circle of Advocates for managing partner Zander Blewett and selection of all four partners to the Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers in America. The video shows how that level of work does not end when the court records close. It continues through scholarships, facilities, and community programs that will outlast any single lawsuit.
